Don't mind the construction and a quick announcement! 04/27/2010

Our building is undergoing some major changes!  Don't mind the construction.  We are still operational.  Our landlord is getting close to building out our space so don't be surprised if you don't see us in the window of the building.  Our new space will be directly in front of the door of the Fern Street side of the street!  We are getting really excited about moving into this space because it will be our permanent (for now) space; a room that we can finally decorate; a room of our own!

We have a quick announcement to make.  Starting June, home ec. studio will have modified hours and modified class formats.  We decided that the open studio hours of 2 pm - 5 pm were not as optimal as we thought they were going to be so we decided to change our format to the following:

2 Basic Sew classes/month
2 Open Studio classes/month

Our hours would then change to 10 am - 3 pm on Sundays.  Basic Sew classes will still be 4 hours long with an hour for clean up and/or overage.  Our Open Studio days will allow our advanced sew students (or people who already know how to sew) to come in for up to 5 hours to work on their own project with minimal supervision OR sew something from our pattern collection.  No instruction will be done during Open Studio days.    We will continue to showcase intermediate sew projects in case our advanced sew students want to come in specifically for that project.  For the basic sew classes, we will stick to our quick and easy projects that were successful with our novice sew students.  So if you missed the 60s shift dress in May, you can be assured that the 60s shift dress will return next month.  We will try to introduce additional basic sew projects but more often than not, we will repeat the favorites.  One of our dilemmas was our gauge for difficulty with patterns.  What seemed like easy patterns for us, ended up being hard for the novice.  We want to offer interesting projects but at the same time we want the novice to feel confident about what they have sewn.

Short Break 04/09/2010

I hope everyone had a lovely spring break.  We took advantage of this hiatus to refresh and rejuvenate.  Lots of sample sewing for upcoming projects and ideas for summer.  We've updated the website with some new stuff and some favorite older projects from student requests.  Take a look at our class schedule.  Attention intermediate sews!!!!  We are sewing a fun project this Sunday.  If you are up for it, there is plenty of space!  Sign up here.  Sign ups for our after school program are now up on the website.  Go here to sign up.   Our project is the drawstring backpack with vintage stencil appliques.  My yard sale goddess, Annie gave me these wonderful finds from a recent adventure.  There are so many cool animals to choose from.
