Well, our landlord won't be ready to turn the keys in to us for the first week of September. So those of you who signed up for the Plush Madness class and the linen summer dress, the first week's classes will be still held at my house. We are hopeful that we will be able to move in to our space in the second week of September. In the meantime, I am going to start adding some Sunday sewing projects for the month of October. I have always been looking for the perfect striped boatneck tee... 3/4 sleeves and the perfect stripe. The french nautical stripe is a classic look and always reminds me of that French seaside 1967 movie Le Demoiselles de Rochefort . Or perhaps it evokes that 70s Scandinavian look of Liv Ulmann in her classic Marimekko Uni dress in Scenes from a Marriage from 1973. Well, I think I have found the perfect pattern and I've added it to our class schedule for October. Sign up online here. Add Comment Summertime and the living is easy 08/20/2009
Hosting these classes at my house has been convenient and pleasant; the french doors opening to our outside deck has actually made our studio working space larger than expected. And although I loved having the classes at my house, realistically it was not going to work out long term. We would like to teach larger classes and we just can't do it in our current space. So here it is... our now location starting in September (Sept. 1 *cross fingers*) wlll be located at: 2225 30th Street Suite 2 San Diego, CA 92104 It is the old Burlingame Garage in South Park and we finally signed the lease yesterday! Yvonne and I are so excited. We're wrapping up our summer camp series tomorrow and it has been such a lovely experience. It was not only the kids and adults who learned something new this summer. Yvonne and I have learned tremendously about teaching and patience and breaking it down to basics. We are anxious to start our Fall after school classes and the new basic sewing classes on Sundays. We are also opening up the studio from 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm for open studios. If you don't own a sewing machine and would like to use one of ours, come by and visit us. Also, if you want to finish a project under our supervision, we would gladly be there to help. Cost is $10/hour to rent one of the machines. See our calendar for our updated schedule. Our week #4 summer camp pictures are here. Here's a little preview... ![]() Our friend Megan was too cute. After finishing her excellent horse plushie by hand sewing, she had this look of exhilaration and accomplishment on her face. Then today she started machine sewing a new plush and realized how much faster it was to make one. She exclaimed, "Wow! I can make ten of these in an hour!" I absolutely love these moments... Our last week of summer camp is this week! These kids just amaze us. We did some fine tuning and a little adjustments based on the feedback we received from the kids and it is running A LOT smoother and the kids are so enraptured with their projects, they forget about the time! ![]() Finger knitting was added to the curricula and is a big hit. The kids told us they went home and did it on their own! ![]() We wanted to see how they would transfer their own creative ideas from paper to product. Check these out... ![]() These plushies are from the hand sewing portion of the class and are made with felt. ![]() A little sneak peek into what our "design and make your own plush" class will be like for the month of September. If you like what you see, click here to sign up! We'll be teaching hand sewing and machine sewing for that class. |
