I wanted to show a little bit of home ec. studio's aesthetic.  Although we have not moved into a space, Yvonne and I have been brain storming on decor and such; our projects would be more Japanese zakka as opposed to the average Michael's or Joann's project.

For the intermediate or advanced crochet student, I've been trying to come up with some group projects and came up with the miniature pillow.  It is made out of euroflax, which is a linen yarn.  The pillow inside is also raw linen and it is stuffed with 100% wool.  It would be great as a scented pillow, possibly lavender.

I've also been scouring through some simple clothing patterns for beginners.  Yes, even beginners can make a simple linen tunic.  If you are not familiar with Japanese Mooks (Magazine/books), they offer a plethora of design inspiration.  Their instructions are image based so you don't even need to understand or speak Japanese.  BTW, the Zakka Sewing book on the left is in English and is available on Amazon.com.  The Check and Stripe books are available on Amazon.jp.

And last but not least, our Janome mini sews arrived.  This is an excellent machine for children to learn on.  The speed is not as fast as the regular machines and it has a good number of stitches for basic sewing.  Apparently, quilters take these on the road when they travel to trade shows.  I've been using it for project design over my full size machine!
